Neue Manifeste für die Kunst

[deutsche version]
  1. The elements and characteristics of a work of art need to come together in view of the field in question in a way that gives the audience or art users access to certain contexts or access to direct experiences with such contexts.

  2. The work of art needs to provide those who engage with it with a form of surplus value.
    - Whether or not the audience/art users actually engage with the work of art needs to make a difference.

  3. Works of art which, according to formal rules, “work” as works of art, can be boring and hollow.
    - Works of art which follow a common and accepted form of art without developing their forms from the field made accessible by the works themselves are boring and hollow. They simply repeat and vary an accepted form without rhyme or reason.

  4. A simple interest in becoming a well-known artist does not constitute a reason for art!

  5. Art that develops from an interest in the field examined and made accessible is better art!

  6. My interests in my art:
    - My works are intended to offer new insights into the field of “art and the perception of art” and make this field more accessible.
    - My works are not about defining the function of art!
    - The results of the analyses of the function of art made from the 1960s to the 1980s, with their contrived and objectivist artistic perspectives on this field, need to be reconnected to the individual in his/her specific situation in relation to what is generally accepted.
    - My works are intended to enable the audience/art users to perceive themselves and their relation to the traditions of engaging with art in their specific situation when confronted with a (my) work of art. In such a situation, he/she is able to perceive his/her own position and is able to take on a position. (Just like in this very moment.)
    - My works are intended to allow the audience/art users to reflect on themselves. At the same time, the work needs to question itself and not be dogmatic or uptight.
    - Humour does not diminish the seriousness of the contexts that are made accessible through art in any way.
